US President Donald Trump
Donald Trump Antifa Declaration: US President Donald Trump has designated Antifa as a terrorist organization, just days after the murder of his close aide, Charlie Kirk. Trump made the announcement in a post on TruthSocial on Thursday, September 18, during his state visit to the United Kingdom. In his statement, Trump also threatened strict legal action against those funding Antifa.
He stated that such individuals and organizations would be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Trump's statement has sparked another major debate in American politics.
President Trump wrote in a social media post, "I am pleased to inform our many American patriots that I am designating Antifa, a sick, dangerous, radical left-wing scourge, as a major terrorist organization. I strongly recommend that those funding Antifa be thoroughly investigated according to the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter." Trump's statement has caused uproar among Antifa supporters and left-wing groups, while his supporters have called it a bold step toward the nation's internal security.
The word Antifa derives from the word anti-fascist, meaning "anti-fascist." It is not a formal organization but a loose network of small groups inspired by left-wing ideology. These groups are primarily active in demonstrations and movements against neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and fascism. These organizations have often been in the news for their violent protests and confrontations. However, they were not previously considered domestic terrorist organizations in the United States.
According to media reports, Antifa is considered a domestic organization in the United States, so it cannot be included on the State Department's list of foreign terrorist organizations. This list includes terrorist groups such as ISIS and al-Qaeda. However, if an organization is designated a domestic terrorist organization, it gives the Justice Department legal grounds to take action against individuals who provide material support to that organization.
Trump had already hinted at taking strong action against antifa during a media briefing in the Oval Office on Monday. He said, "If such a move had the support of Attorney General Pam Bondi and others in his Cabinet, I would designate antifa as a domestic terrorist organization. That's something I would do, yes, I would do it 100%. Antifa is terrible."
Trump's decision is being linked to the recent murder of Charlie Kirk. Kirk was the co-founder of Turning Point USA and one of Trump's key young supporters. Trump had described him as crucial to engaging young people and Black voters in his 2024 campaign. Kirk's murder has further heightened tensions in the country's political climate, and this tough stance on Antifa is being seen as a result.
